Why can't I just host SHOUTcast on my own internet connection, why do I need you ??
Here are some of the choices you have if you want to host your own shoutcast radio station from your house or business. Depending on where you live most cable ISP only allows 2 mbps upload for $100 a month, (Max listeners is only 15 tuned in @ 128 kbps). You can get up to 10 mbps upload from a cable provider for around $200 a month, (Max listeners is 78 tuned in @ 128 kbps). You can get a T-1 with 1.5 Mbps upload for $350 a month, (Max listeners is only 11 tuned in @ 128 kbps). A bonded T-1 with 10 Mbps upload for $850 a month,(Max listeners is 78 tuned in @ 128 kbps). DSL / FIOS / U-Verse they only give you 256 kbps upload to 1mbps. If you plan on having a 128 kbps stream with 10 listeners tuned in at the same time you will need at least a 1.28 mbps upload to handle it. Does that make sense to have a T-1 for $350 a month, when we will charge you less than $10 a month for a 128 kbps - 100 listener plan. With 10 mbps you can only get on 78 listeners on before it will start buffing at 128 kbps. This is where we come in, Each server we have has either a 100mbps to 1,000mbps upload. Plenty of bandwidth to handle any size shoutcast radio station. If you want many listeners tuned in at the same time and not pay thousands of dollars a month, it is a MUST to use a company like us to provide the amount of bandwidth that is needed and to keep it cost effective.
